Day 2 - City tour

"Get" was our tour guide today.  What a wonderful lady.  We jumped on the sky train and travelled downtown toward the river transferring between train lines.  We then travelled by public boat from the main pier to the Grand Palace.  What a spectacular place.  Thai people love their King and all that he represents.  The Grand Palace is made up of various buildings within the compound each representing something different.  Once we were finished Get hired a "Tuk Tuk"  to take us to a private pier were  we hired a long boat to take us up one of Bangkok's main canals.  There are many canals that are still used by the locals to get around.  The water was very rough and dirty due to the boat traffic.  The boat drivers are very skilled and manage to dock these boats at the piers without too much difficulty.  We then went to Wat Phoe the temple of the reclining Buda.  This was very impressive.  Buda was huge and covered in gold leaf.  By this time the crowds were becoming intense and we both had had our fill of temples.

We had a delicious lunch in a small restaurant across the street and then decided we should go to the train station to book our train for Thursday.  Guess what the train were full so we ended up booking a flight to Chaing Mai.  Oh well I guess i will have to ride the train another time.  After this was all taken care of we decided to find a Tailor to get suits made.

"Get" recommended one and about 1 hour later we had been measured up and the suits were being cut as we left the store.  Our first fitting is tomorrow afternoon and they will be done by Thursday morning before our flights leave.  wow what service.  I can't wait to see them.

Our dinner tonight was at a place called "cabbage and condoms"  I know it's a weired combination for a name but it is run by a non-profit organization that promotes safe sex and family planning.  The owners philosophy was that in order for family planning to work condoms had to be as recognized and as available as your everyday veggie at the market.  Instead of mints after dinner we received condoms.
